Soaring Flight Options

At Black Forest Soaring Society (BFSS) we offer two types of flights to fit the experience you or someone you love are seeking. Whether you, a friend, or a family member want to experience Colorado at 4000 feet above the ground in a calm, smooth atmosphere or would rather experience the ultimate sport of soaring, we can accommodate you.

BFSS has two flight packages available as detailed below.

Payment is accepted onsite, prior to the flight, in the form of check, cash, or credit card. Credit cards are charged an additional 5% fee. We do not accept cryptocurrency.

Introductory Soaring Flight Experience

This flight experience will take you to heights of 3,000 - 4,000 feet above Colorado earlier in the day (8:00am) prior to thermal development. You will experience views of the famous Pikes Peak, the Colorado/New Mexico border, southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and 100's of miles of the Front Range. This flight experience is a great option for the novice passenger unsure of what to expect while soaring. This flight has a duration of 20 to 30 minutes. Each of these flights is $200.00.

Ultimate Soaring Flight Experience

If you, a friend, or a family member are looking for a flight to see what soaring is all about - you're in the right place! Black Forest Soaring is known around the world for it's exceptional atmospheric conditions that allow glider pilots to travel 1,000+ kilometers in one flight! These flights typically begin later in the day (3:00pm) when lifting conditions are at their peak. In a typical flight, your glider pilot will release about 1,500-2,000 feet above Colorado and use the Earth's energy to quickly climb one mile above Colorado or more. The Ultimate Soaring Flight Experience can be a turbulent but fun ride with an abundance of tight turns while thermalling. Depending on the day, the passenger and pilot will be outfitted with supplemental oxygen. After this approximately 60-minute flight, the pilot will safely return to the airport and the passenger will better understand the addictive sport of soaring! Each of these flights are $475.00.

For all flights the following applies:

Passengers should weigh between 80lbs-230lbs. For passengers weighing more than 230lbs.
Only one passenger at a time
Sunscreen is highly recommended
A visor/hat without a button on the top is highly recommended
Bring water!
Bring a camera/phone with a camera
Always eat a light meal prior to flying

Frequently asked questions

Q: Can I pay for the glider ride at the airfield on the day of my ride? A: Yes, that is preferred. We accept cash, check, or credit card. Credit cards will be charged and additional 5% fee.
Q: Does the rider/passenger fly the plane? A: No. We provide an FAA-certified commercial pilot or instructor who will sit in the rear seat of the glider and operate the controls. If you are interested in learning to fly, please see our New Members page.
