Black Forest Soaring Society was founded in the spring of 1986. The original location was just northeast of Colorado Springs near the intersection of Woodmen Road and Black Forest Road. The commercial operation at this site, Wave Flights was legendary for the number of high altitude flights achieved in the Pikes Peak wave. This airport was closed in late 1986, and in 1988, the first flights at the current location began.
Originally named Black Forest Glider Park, it was renamed to Kelly Airpark after the owner and developer of the airpark we enjoy today.
Black Forest Soaring Society is a membership organization dedicated to the fostering and promotion of the sport of soaring. The club is a chapter of Soaring Society of America so all our members belong to SSA as well.
